This means that before ordering these lenses, the correct fit must be found. This means that toric lenses are often more expensive than traditional lenses. It also means that you cannot simply stop by your optometrists and get some new contacts. They will most likely need to be specially ordered and will take a few days to receive them (so plan ahead).

If these types of lenses are not for you, there are other similar options available as well. Sometimes a regular lens is enough to “mask” the astigmatism, however this is only the case if your astigmatism is relatively minor. There are also smaller, more rigid contact lenses that can be an alternative to toric lenses. They are easier to take care of and often last much longer. However, they are also more expensive and will often be uncomfortable for several weeks before your eyes get used to them.
